Lose To Find
Sometimes one thing must be released before something new can be found. Maybe you are finding yourself at a moment in your life when major change is happening, maybe even several things at once— experiencing a job or home transition, seeing children move to new stages of life, watching family or friends go through something hard, losing a good friend, experiencing a relationship breakup or divorce, or— fill in the blank. In those moments it can feel as though everything that once felt secure is slipping away, no matter how tightly you try to hold on.
We feel-we need-we want-we have to hang onto all of that, but we feel it slipping through our fingers no matter what we do. We think we can control it, stop it from happening, do something! It is one of the most hopeless feelings to feel we are losing so much at one time and are helpless to stop it or do anything about it.
But what if there is another possibility? Ask yourself, what if I had to lose this or experience this in order to gain something else? And what if that something else could even be better than what I had, better than I could ever imagine? But I have to let go in order to receive it.
If we can hold on then we can let go, and sometimes we have to let go in order to be able to receive what is coming next.
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3 (NLT)
